OUR PROMISE

At Football for Us we won't claim to make your kids the next Mbappe or Bellingham, that's not what we are about. We won't sell you the dream  but  we can show you the reality of how to build decent sessions at grassroots that will help your kids progress to play the beautiful game. We don't promise that you will be the next Pep, or Potch. What we can guarantee is an easy to use, step by step series of videos that will allow you and your kids to get the best out of simple sessions. If you are parent looking to give your kid a head start, or help them improve, our 1-2-1 sessions are for made for you. You never know, you may end up managing or coaching and we will be there to support you then too.

You'll notice from the majority of our videos that they are set in areas far from perfect to train on. For the most part we are in conditions that a lot of you will be able relate to. We don't have academy standard facilities. We don't have access to premier standard pitches but still we are able to put on fun, structured session to help our kids develop and become better. Regardless of facilities you can too.

At the club I volunteer for we had around 60 volunteers in 2025. Only four of them had any type of badges. We helped the others by designing these sessions and they are built for people who do not have the time or desire to become 'coaches' but still want to help their kids and their pals  have fun and progress in the beautiful game.

Most of my fellow volunteers had no desire to become coaches either but we did want to help, so we empathise with those who are in the same situation. We know the number of volunteers without qualifications is huge and that's why Football For Us was born. We have a genuine desire to help and our head coach has walked in your shoes. We know the reality and what you see here is the reality of grassroots football.

OUR METHOD

We follow FA guidelines. We apply the "Four Corners" approach which covers, physical, technical, social and psychological (but you don't need to get bogged down in the science; we've done that for you)  We use sequences of technique, skill and game. We will help you design your session so the kids are always on the go. If you are a grassroots coach, you most likely only get an hour or an hour and a half with them so we'll make sure you all get the best out of your time together.

The methods are simple but effective. We do almost everything with a ball. We show you how keep them engaged with a ball at their feet for most of their session. They want to play football, give them a ball.

For football fitness let them play small sided games which don't stop when the ball goes out of play. Coaches, watch the game and grids videos and make sure you have plenty of balls so the game continually flows and the players don't stop moving. If I want to be 800 meter runner, I wouldn't play football, so why oh why when I only have an hour to an hour and half training with my team would I make do anything that was not football related. They can do all other fitness work away from you sessions. A simple thing to remember is "mimic the game to get to the aim"  You want football fitness? Play Football!

OUR RATIONAL

Most people will tell you practise makes perfect. Perfect only happens once in while. We say practise make permanent.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat, is the only way to acquire skills and the more you practise, the more you create what is called the "neural pathways" The stronger the neural pathway, the stronger the connection between the brain and the body part executing the technique of the skill. Even the most seasoned professionals practise every day.

It's a fallacy to say anyone is a natural at any sport. No one came out of the womb kicking a ball. It's as simple as that! You need to develop neural pathways to acquire any skills. From picking up a pen when kids learn to write, to juggling a football, you can't master it without practise.

This is why we use repetitive sets of technical, skill and game exercises which, if followed, cannot fail but to develop and progress. It's physiologically impossible not to become better if you repeat, repeat repeat, but you need to stick at it and you need to at least have a minimum level of dedication to practise. We recommend half an hour each day or 3/5 hours a week for the basic ball skills but do what you can. If you are serious you will find the time.

The latest graduates of this program have seen their team win all  but seven of their 50 games in season 2023/24 P50 W43
